The list below will provide you with the other species currently available in this roleplay. If you have any questions, please DO NOT post them here. Post them in the Species FAQ section located in this board.
Human - Self explanatory. Most humans are permitted to have no abilities. A human character may be of any age you wish them to be, but they must be the age they appear.
Note: A human might have the rare gift of being some kind of medium, or the gift of "Sight" (i.e. tarot card reader, fortune teller) however, these gifts are very different and very weak compared to that of actual supernatural creatures. If you wish to pursue a character in that matter, it must be first discussed with and approved by me.
Witches - These witches are more like your classic, natural witches with a connection to nature, have their book of shadows, and mix potions. Wands and familiars are optional. Tarot cards are also something likely used from time to time by these folks. They don't have any abilities other than their magic and the occasional vision. All spells come with a price. Potions may not be what you think. You have been warned. Light witches use their magic selflessly, those who are selfish with magic are marked by the darkness, and slowly become less and less human, both in nature and in appearance. Witches must look the age they are, and have a life span much like humans. No half breeds. Either you're born a witch, or you're not. Parents don't have to be witches themselves for their child to be one. There are only two terms for witches; a light witch or a dark witch. Witches cannot become vampires or therianthropes. (Note: Selfish magic can and will backfire in more ways than changing your appearance to something grotesque.)
Hell Demons - These creatures, which were banished to the realm of hell, but have ways of coming to the earthly plane of existence, were either once holy beings that fell from grace, the creation of one (i.e. succubi and incubi being the "children" of Asmodeus, one of the seven princes of hell who is known as Lust), or were once a human, skinwalker, gypsy, or a witch whose soul became corrupted and went to hell. Demons are incapable of taking a corporeal form on earth, so they must evict a host from their body, however they feel necessary, and possess them. The longer they stay within a human, the less likely it is that person will be able to return to that body, if they still exist and their soul hasn't been consumed. Demons can only possess humans or witches (as witches are human themselves). However, with hundreds of years of trained magic, one can create a demonic soul (which uses the creator's blood to do so) and fuse it to the soul of another person. This is an extremely rare case, as the created demonic soul cannot be attached to just anyone, and most simply die from consumption within days, sometimes hours of being fused to the demonic soul.
Demons cannot be killed by general means that would kill a human being. Though, if their host body is too damaged (being set on fire, torn limb from limb, etc.) the demon will have to look for another vulnerable person to possess. Demons are weak against purifying items (such as salt, holy water, iron, etc). There is no easy way to kill a demon. However, they can be sent back to hell through exorcism prayers and chants. It could potentially take them years to climb back out of hell and onto the earthly plane of existence. Places may also be warded against them with the proper sigils. Some can be controlled, or bound to people, with the use of specific spells. However, it takes a great deal of power to do this, not to mention the finding of the spell meant for that specific demon/specific type of demon. Demons don't generally take kind to being forced into servitude like this, and if/when the spell is broken, they will immediately turn on the person who cast the spell, torturing and killing them before dragging their souls to hell.
The basic abilities of all hell demons are enhanced strength, enhanced speed, possession, apparition (In the form of ashy, transparent smoke-can only be an apparition when not possessing a body), teleportation (apparition form only), spell work and rituals, blood communication, mild summoning (other demons only, if they're in general proximity--summoning a demon right from hell needs a ritual, some need specific rituals), enhanced senses, enhanced regeneration (meaning wound self-healing; Not instant), force movement (being capable of moving persons or objects with an invisible force of energy; wielded with the hands--no movement of the hands, means the power is incapable of being used).
Some demons might have specific powers according to the kind of demon they are. For example, Succubi and Incubi, the children of Asmodeus, would also have lust inducement, mild hypnosis, sleep inducement, and dream walking (They enter the dreams of their victims to have sex with them and suck their life force--succubi feed on male sexual energy, and incubi feed on female sexual energy). The "children" of the seven princes of hell (the seven sins) will be capable of inducing that specific sin in humans. These "children" are part of what makes up the most basic, or "common" demon population. Their sin powers may not work on creatures that aren't human or mostly human.
As succubi and incubi are the product of Lust impregnating a human (however, they are not half-breeds. They are full demons), thus, they themselves can only produce offspring with humans (again, the offspring are not half-breeds. They are all demon). A succubus/incubus' powers do not emerge until they hit puberty, and many do not know what they are until then. These demons are considered the most basic of demons.
As of right now, the only demons that will be accepted in the roleplay are the basic "common" level demons (this includes succubi and incubi). The common level demons will likely only have one or two personal abilities, if any.
Ghosts - Humans, vampires, therianthropes, gypsies, skinwalkers, and witches have the potential of becoming ghosts when they die. One cannot be both a ghost and another supernatural creature, however. Once a ghost, they are just a ghost. Any other supernatural qualities are lost. A ghost is the soul of that person stuck on the earthly plane. This could be for a number of reasons. Some have unfinished business, others don't know they're dead, some even choose to stay on the earthly realm, and some are brought back to through the veil by a spell.
There are several things that can be used against a ghost, to ward them off, or otherwise. Purifying agents such as salt and iron are two of these things. Because of its purifying properties, salt wards them off. It's said that if you leave a pile of salt in the corner of a room by the door, lining doors and windows with salt, or creating a circle around yourself with salt, it will ward off and create a barrier from ghosts. Salt has even been used in summoning spirit spells, creating a circle around the spot in which they will be summoned to, to trap them. Iron can be used to disperse a ghost, leaving the ghost to have to gather up its energy again so it can reform. This may take several minutes, or just thirty seconds, depending on how strong the ghost is. Taking pictures of a ghost has also been known to disperse a ghost, however, this is with old fashioned cameras only. Digital cameras and phone cameras won't work. Burning sage can keep them dispersed from your home or your room for a lengthy time. Though if you're only burning sage, it's only a temporary solution. You can perform a smudging ceremony, or a blessing, in a home can purge it from any spirits. Sometimes this is a permanent solution, and sometimes it's only temporary, depending on how strong the spirit is.
Other ways of "getting rid" of a ghost, is by helping them move on. Whatever it is they need, if they resolve it, they'll move onto the next world. Destroying whatever it is that binds them to this world will also force them to move on. This could be their dead bodies, an item, or a place (i.e. burning the remains, burning an item that belonged to them, tearing down the home they haunt, destroying the spot where they died).
A ghost's strength depends on its age. A new ghost may have little to no control over the abilities it possesses. The longer one has been a ghost, the more control and the more strength they will have. However, everything they do uses up their energy. When they've used up all of their energy, they will disperse to rest and build it up again. New ghosts will use up their energy faster. Those with the gift of being able to see and/or talk to ghosts will often be plagued by ghosts, provided the ghosts know that person can see them. The reason for this is that the ghosts don't need to use their energy to be seen and heard by others. It takes a good amount of energy to make oneself visible to the living.
A ghost's abilities are apparition (different from demons--appearing and reappearing in different spots in one vicinity.), possession (different from demons as they don't evict the person in the body. New ghosts may not be able to possess people, and not everyone is capable of being possessed. Possessing someone takes a great deal of energy, so possession is temporary.), energy force movement (Using their energy to move objects and people--new ghosts may not be able to do this, or do this well. They'll likely only be able to move objects with practice at first.), object possession (this would be easier for new ghosts to do, as it wouldn't result in a struggle with the living person), intangibility (being able to pass through solid things, this does not apply when possessing someone, as a ghost cannot phase with a living thing).
Earth Demons/Spirits - Though these creatures are often referred to as demons, they aren't actually demons. At least, not like the demons from hell. They're more like corporeal spirits of things like animals, elements, plants, etc (i.e. Fox demon/spirit, fire demon/spirit, oak demon/spirit, and so on). These creatures are beings who happen to have the ability to take a human form, among other powers. Some are naturally stronger and more capable than others. These creatures aren't inherently evil like hell demons, but they are, more often than not, mischievous by nature. Though, depending on the type, some may also be shy and more docile. Many of them might feed on humans, animals, or they might even cannibalize their own. Some, such as the elements, feed on their element.
These creatures cannot breed with humans or any other that isn't of their own kind (i.e. Fox demons/spirits can only have babies with other fox demons/spirits, fire demons/spirits can only have babies with other fire demons/spirits). However, there is some mild cross-breeding when it comes to plant based Earth demons/spirits (Different flower demons/spirits being capable of producing young with each other).
Although there's some common ways to kill these creatures that stretches out over each type (such as starvation), most have their own specific weaknesses and what will kill them. This is generally fairly obvious, like plant based demons/spirits being extra susceptible to fire, holding a fire demon/spirit under water until it's "flame" is doused, dehydrating a water demon/spirit, etc. While others are a little more difficult, such as removing the heart of animal/insect based demons/spirits, burning it, and burying the ashes on holy ground. There are rituals and charms that may help to ward off these creatures if used correctly, however, this may only be for a short period of time, depending on the strength of the one who performs the ritual/creates the charm, and the strength of the demon/spirit themselves.
In order of strongest to weakest, it goes as follows: Animals, elements, insects, plants. The more tails one of these creatures has (provided it's a creature with tails) the stronger and more capable it will be.
Earth demons/spirits are allowed to have up to three abilities. However, these abilities must be linked to one another/the kind of creature the demon/spirit is. General abilities that all of these creatures, no matter the type, are omni-enhancement, Shape changing (From their base form to human, and everything in between--i.e. Fox demon/spirit can go from full fox form, to beast fox humanoid, to human with fox attributes, to full human.)
Some creatures have abilities specific to their base, but each in that specific category are capable of using it (i.e. Water demons/spirits being able to manipulate water and everything water based, fox demons/spirits being able to use fox fire or being able to call on fox shadows to bewitch a human). These do not count towards the three available abilities you may give them, and some of these basic abilities for the base types will be open to interpretation.
Angels - Angels are holy beings that serve heaven, and are considered the opposition to demons from hell. These beings have been known throughout time as the "law enforcement" or "authority" of the supernatural, and they themselves follow the belief that they have been given a divine mission by their god (though many gods exist in this universe, they follow only one god; their creator). Though many may refer to "God" as a he, angels may refer to God as "They", for he appears to them as two adolescent children of identical appearance, one male and one female, always hand in hand, and generally speaking in unison.
However, one must not assume that angels are great, kind, generous beings. They are something of an arrogant race that consider themselves above all other creatures that aren't their god. Despite they fact that those who still remain in Grace's favour after God asked the angels to bow down to the human race and love the humans more than God themselves, there are some who remain resentful towards humans, and silently (and for a few, not so silently), desire for the destruction of human kind, and any other creature they deem an abomination. The odd angel may turn rogue and go on a rampage on Earth, however, if they aren't eventually killed by other creatures, they turn into hell demons.
There are many ways an angel may fall from grace and become a hell demon, which is why there are no "fallen angels" as many demons either are "fallen angels" or the creation of one that was once an angel. Anything that may defile or taint an angel's purity could cause them to fall and be cast out of heaven. Laying with any unholy being (meaning anyone NOT an angel) will automatically fall from grace, and eventually turn into a hell demon.
Humans and angels may produce young together. These offspring are known as Nephilim, and are extremely rare. Though Nephilim aren't able to sprout wings or use any serious powers, they are incredibly strong, often faster and smarter than the average human, and can sense who is and isn't human, and what that creature may just be. Nephilim are often hunted down by other creatures, as their blood and hearts are valuable for things such as certain spells and rituals. Their blood has also proven to be a real delicacy to creatures who feed on blood (or hearts for that matter). This is why most don't live very long. There may only be a total of three or four alive in the entire world at one time, and none have lived into old age.
There are a number of different "kinds" of angels: Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones (also called Ophanim), Hashmallim, Virtues (also called Strongholds), Powers (also called Authorities), Principalities (also called Rulers), Archangels, and Malakhim (your average angel, guardian angels, cupids). Although some might consider beings such as Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones as a higher level of angel, this may only refer to the level in heaven in which they reside. Arch-angels (Archangels) are considered to be the ultimate angelic force, above all angels. Currently, only Malakhim will be accepted in the roleplay. Other types of angels may become available later. Please note: Cherubim are NOT cupids, and they are not chubby little babies. Those are called Putti, and are in no manner a religious being.
Angels, like hell demons, do not have a corporeal form on Earth, and most take up residence in a human. However, Angels are more restricted than hell demons when it comes to finding a vessel. The vessel must be a believer in their hearts, and they must give consent, or the angel can't possess them. Once possessed, the angel has full control, and the human will remain in a dream like state, completely unaware of reality, and what the angel may be doing with their body. If the human were to somehow be woken up from that dream, or somehow made aware, they may be able to evict the angel from their body. All angels have an angelic name, however, on Earth, they use the name of the person they possess. It is important that an angel do everything possible to keep their true name a secret.
There are summoning and binding rituals that can be performed for/on angels, but one must know the name of the angel in which they are summoning/binding. There's also warding magic that can be done to keep angels away. Though angels are extremely difficult to kill, it's not impossible. They easiest way is by tearing off their wings, provided you can get to them. By doing so, they will become mortal, and easy to kill. Damaging the area of their backs where the wings manifest can also be useful, as it will greatly weaken them. Once weak, remove their head, their hands, and their feet, soak the severed body parts in holy water, then burn them. This will completely destroy the angel. If you do not wish to kill the person they're residing in, there are rituals for sending an angel back to heaven. Once this happens, the person will be released from the angel's grip, and the angel may take many many years getting back to Earth and finding a new vessel.
The basic abilities for all angels are wing manifestation, omni-enhancement, healing (others only), enhanced regeneration, illness/ailment transference (taking someone's illness/ailment onto themselves), apparition (appearing and reappearing from place to place), weapon manifestation (every angel has their own weapon--just one--that is soulbound to them, and they can call upon this weapon as needed), energy force movement, energy shield creation, element use (Malakhim can only use one of the four basic elements, though you may choose which one of four your angel has), persuasion (this works on humans and witches only), soul reading (being able to tell if someone has a pure soul or a corrupted soul), dream walking, mediumship, memory/thought reading (only with the permission of the one whose mind is being invaded--must have physical contact with the person as well), smiting (humans, witches, and low level demons only, and that's only if they can manage to touch them on the head).
Malakhim do not have any other abilities aside from what's listed above. Even still, this does not mean they're easy to kill or overpower. Angels in general are a formidable opponent.
Mermaids/Sirens - These creatures appear to be half human, and have fish. They dwell in large bodies of water, and often in schools/pods.
Mermaids are the kinder of the fishfolk. They have a love for humans, and try to save those who have been shipwrecked at sea. Though, they aren't always successful, and when they fail to save a human, they weep for days. All mermaids have the ability to sing. For mermaids, their melodies as soft, sweet, and soothe those who hear their singing. It puts one's heart and mind at ease, so to speak.
Mermaids are a matriarch kind of society, you could say. It's a female dominated species, and mermen are rare. That being said, mermen are very sought after by mermaids as mates. To have a merman for a mate brings a great amount of honor and respect within the merfolk community. But, there's one very serious flaw with mermen; they're infertile. So, in order for mermaids to reproduce, they must go onto land and find a human male to seduce and copulate with (keep in mind they can only mate with humans, and the infants produced are full mermaid/merman, no half breeds). For mermen who have mates, this can be a difficult thing to cope with. Mermen tend to be very jealous and territorial when it comes to their mates, and sometimes (not always) they will go onto land to kill the human their mates have had coitus with. The odd time, though it's very rare, the merman will kill the young that's produced by the union of his mate and a human male.
Merfolk do not all look the same when in merfolk form. Some look more like a human torso with a fish like bottom half, while others look more fish like in general, with oddly coloured flesh, and scales that appear in various places on their upper half, more fins, and fish/creature like eyes. No matter what the case, they're always nude within the water, and nude when they take human form out of the water. This means they must search for clothes to wear when on land, provided they don't have someone waiting for them with clothing already. Merfolk are not modest about nudity, as they don't have the "body modest" culture in their society. Their "fish" parts do not all look the same for every merperson either. Some may look like angel fish, another may have the tail of a clown fish, or lion fish, etc. (Note: You may choose which kind of fish your mermaid/merman takes after, and how fish like they look when in mermaid/merman form)
Though merfolk can control if they look human or mer-like on land, entering water up to their knees, or being plunked down in water, will automatically change them into their merperson form. Depending on a merperson's age, and how common they explore land, they can stay out of the water anywhere from an hour and a half, to three days. However, after their time is up, they must return to the water for at least twenty-four hours to replenish themselves. If they are kept from the water longer than they can handle, they will dry up and die (all of this applies to sirens as well, please keep that in mind).
Sirens are the darker side of this species. Sirens are the result of a mermaid, or in the rarest case, a merman, becoming corrupted. This generally happens out of desperation for food, where the mermaid/merman ends up eating human flesh, or one of its own kind, in order to survive. Merfolk tend to feed on kelp, other sea plants, krill, and certain kinds of fish (however, with the mass fishing of modern day and oil dumping, their food supply isn't as bountiful as it had once been). Once a mermaid/merman has tasted the flesh of a human or another merperson, there is no turning back. They will begin to mutate over the course of several weeks, and become the twisted creature that is the siren. Sirens tend too look more like your carnivorous fish of the seas and deep oceans (such as sharks, angler fish, eels, etc.). There eyes are usually reflect the appearance of those animals, and all of their teeth become sharp and pointed like needles for tearing and puncturing flesh, unlike mermaids/mermen who have relatively human looking teeth with small fangs (top and bottom) for catching and subduing fish.
Sirens, like mermaids, are able to sing beautiful songs as well, only their melodies hypnotize those who hear it, and drive them to get to the siren no matter the cost, even if it means drowning or becoming shipwrecked. Sirens often drown their victims before eating them, though the odd one may enjoy munching on their meal while it's still alive. When a mermaid becomes a siren, they are no longer capable of producing young (infirtile much like the men of their species in general). And though they're the same as merfolk when it comes to exploring land, their drive to search out humans on land isn't to produce young, but the need to feed on human flesh (all sirens deeply crave human flesh when they're hungry, no exceptions). This means that all sirens were once mermaids. A mermaid/merman can become a siren at any age, and male sirens, being even more rare than mermen, tend to group together to keep from being killed by female sirens. Female sirens, the stronger gender, can be pack hunters or solitary hunters, depending.
Mermaids and sirens are not immortal. Though they have an extremely long life span, and their aging slows to a crawl once they hit adulthood, they can easily be killed by any means, no different than a human or animal. Although human illnesses don't seem to have an affect on them, fish and other waterlife illnesses can and do. Mermaids and Sirens cannot swim in pools that have chemicals in them (such as chlorine). It will not only cause severe rashes on their bodies, but if filtered through their gills, can cause burning and infection in their gills, and their lungs (yes, merfolk and sirens have both of these things), which can result in their respiratory system shutting down, causing death.
The abilities for these creatures are as follows (unless specifically stated, these abilities stretch across both mermaids/mermen and sirens); Mermaid melody (merfolk only, can only be used in merperson form, will only work on humans or human based creatures like witches and skinwalkers), siren song (sirens only, can only be used in siren form, will only work on humans or human based creatures like witches and skinwalkers), shape changing (between human and the creature they really are), speed swimming, seduction/charm (in human form only, useful on humans only).
