Background: Vernon, like all of the originals, was not a human turned, nor was he born as an infant. He was created, with magic, blood, and darkness, by the one they knew as "Mother"; the first true original vampire, long since dead. Vernon is one of the oldest of Mother's children, and was created in Mother's first "batch", whereas Ryuko was created in the second, making Vernon older than Ryuko, even if only by a little bit.
Vernon was once a strong and powerful vampire leading a clan of his own, and it was such for a long time, until the early 1200's. It was at this time, Vernon developed a rare disease that his mind, mostly his sanity, to deteriorate little bit by little bit. It came to a point where he was deemed unfit to run a clan or care for its members, and they scattered, leaving him alone.
Ryuko and Vernon had never gotten along, though it wasn't without Ryuko's trying. Ryuko offered Vernon a home in his own clan, where he would have his own wing of the castle, and his privacy. With nowhere else to go, Vernon reluctantly accepted.
Vernon has many interests, his main ones being alchemy, and science. Every so often, he's attempted to try and "educate" others in the clan that capture his interest, whether it's in alchemy, or the ways of the sword, or something else, but he quickly loses interest in them, and furiously sends them away from his company.
In his time, he'd been an ultimate strategist, willing to sacrifice anyone for victory. He still seems to maintain that mentality in his insanity. He once tried to lead a rebellion against Ryuko in order to take control from within the clan, however, his efforts were pathetically futile. Though, this hasn't discouraged any thoughts of trying again one day.
When Amirah was brought to the castle, Vernon instantly bedded her, simply because, which caused even more bad blood between him and Ryuko. Even though it was only the one time, there is still tension between them.
Despite his sweet looking face, Vernon is a scary and angry man, with an incredibly short fuse. The littlest things can and will set him off. He can, however, be quite charming if it will somehow get him something he wants. But once he has what he wants, the charm immediately drops, and he's back to his old, insane self.
