Background: Nicolae, also called Nico and Nic, is the oldest son, and oldest child overall, of Roman and Maria. Between Roman and Maria, there are, so far, five children; three boys and two girls, with the first girl born after Nicolae, and the two are over twenty years apart. Like all of Roman's children, Nico was brought up with the same fundamentals and beliefs as his father before him. He was to hold himself above all others, with the idea that vampires were the truly superior race.
But Nico always had such a fascination with humans, human life, and many other species. Even if he still carried a certain amount of "I'm better than you" air about him. He would often sneak out, and go into town to spend time around those he was so intrigued by. But Roman wasn't bind to this. It only made him drill into his son more, about the ideals their clan held. The final straw came down when Nic was fifteen years old. He harbored feelings for a young blood slave in the clan. She was beautiful, and he wanted her. But being so young, he wasn't skilled in hiding how he felt about this girl. Roman felt he needed to make a point, so he forced Nic to watch as he killed the girl in the worst possible way, and after, punished Nic by piercing his right eye, making him blind. Nicolae learned he had to hide his fascinations after that.
As he years rolled by, Nicolae got better at playing the part Roman wanted him to play. He acted how his father wanted him to act, while he was with the clan. Whenever he had time to himself, though, he would explore his interests. He was extra careful about it though, and still is, not wishing to get caught by his father again.
Despite being the oldest, Nicolae isn't promised to his father's "throne". If he wishes to become the next ruler of the clan, he has to prove himself to be competent enough to run the clan in Roman's ideals. Roman plans to choose the child that proves to be most worthy. At this point in time, Nicolae isn't sure if he wants to run such a clan; he is torn between the family he's always known, and the interests he can't seem to deny himself.
Nic isn't quite like his father. Although generally relaxed, he has a pretty sure fuse. And this is when that superiority complex he was brought up with shines through. Sometimes even violently. But afterwards, when he's alone, that anger turns in against himself as guilt. He doesn't seem to smile too often, perhaps because he's never really been truly happy. He appears intimidating, and sometimes, this is true even in personality. Away from the clan, and his father, he becomes a gentler, softer person.
Nicolae is trained in combat, just like all of his siblings, by his father.
